NIOS Schooling for ITI Students – A Golden Opportunity for Career Growth

“NIOS for ITI Students” In a significant step towards integrating vocational and formal education, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has introduced a special schooling opportunity for ITI (Industrial Training Institute) learners. This initiative allows ITI students to earn a Secondary or Senior Secondary Certificate in addition to their ITI trade certificate, strengthening their academic qualifications for higher studies and job opportunities.

NIOS-DGT Collaboration

To make this possible, NIOS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India.

Under this collaboration:

• ITI learners under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) can now transfer credits from subjects already studied in their trade course.

• This drastically reduces the number of subjects they need to appear for through NIOS to receive certification.

Subject Requirements for Certification

Depending on the duration of their ITI course, students can follow this structure to earn their Secondary or Senior Secondary certificate from NIOS:

🛠️ For Two-Year Trades:

• NIOS will accept credit transfer of 4 subjects from ITI.

• The student must study at least 1 Language subject from Group A of NIOS.

🧰 For One-Year Trades:

• NIOS will accept credit transfer of 3 subjects.

• The student must study:

  • 1 Language subject from Group A, and

  • 1 Academic subject from any group offered by NIOS.

➕ Optional Subjects:

• Students can choose up to 2 additional academic subjects from any NIOS group to enhance their academic profile.
